Happy Lunar New Year

Updated: Feb 10, 2022

Hi everyone! I am so late on this post for Lunar New Year! This year it's the year of the Tiger? Is anyone this Zodiac? I can't believe that you have to wait another 12 years for this to happen again. Did you know in China they celebrate for 23 days?! It's a huge celebration over there and they get a few weeks off to spend quality time with their family.

This is one of the celebrations that I always look forward too. Growing up, I remember growing up I would wake up and run downstairs to greet my parents Gong hei fat chow (Happy Lunar New Year) and they would give me a hong bao (red bag) with lucky money inside. Then, we would eat lucky candy, tangerine

and pray to our ancestors and eat food such as nian gāo,(sticky rice cake with brown sugar) that represents you'll get a higher positions step by step. By eating nián gāo, you were setting yourself up for strong career growth.

The day before Lunar New Year we would have a reunion dinner and have a huge feast. This year was special because we celebrated twice with my family and celebrate the New Year together as a family.

It's always hard to come together because everyone has a busy schedule with work and school. It's nice catch up with everyone and enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal with many dishes such as chicken, fish will lead to a year of prosperity and dishes like noodles represent to live a long life and many more!

Wishing you all a very Happy Lunar New Year. May this year bring you lots of happiness, good health and prosperity to you and your family!

I am so blessed to be able to share my culture with my son and have him learn about the food and culture that we celebrate in our heritage. This is a video of him learning about food and how it represents luck and prosperity from his Lunar New year food playset. Thank you to April! #happynewyear #2022 #goodluck #prosperity #goodluck #hongbao #luckymoney #foodblogger
